Mimoco USB Robots

I’m not sure when USB devices went from being functional to being functional kitsch, but I’m glad they have, because I get a real kick out of them. Take, for example, the mimoco mimobot, a “designer toy flash memory drive.”
These flash drives come in three storage sizes (256MB, 512MB and 1GB) and four character styles (protobot0, protobot1, isadore and fairybit (pictured)). Be warned, however, these little guys may appear to be hi-speed USB 2.0 flash storage devices preloaded by a special mix by DJ DB; but according to the mimoco website, these are actually mimobot clones whose purpose is to heal their sick counterparts by transmitting your data “to RALF computer on planet blooh who will directly regurgitate the upload into the digitized brain of the ill mimobot.”
Sigh. Why is it (with gadgets as with life) that the cute ones are always crazy?
