PageRank is a numeric value that represents how important a page is on the web. Google figures that when one page links to another page, it is effectively casting a vote for the other page. The more votes that are cast for a page, the more important the page must be. Also, the importance of the page that is casting the vote determines how important the vote itself is. Google calculates a page’s importance from the votes cast for it. How important each vote is is taken into account when a page’s PageRank is calculated.

Next we should know why we need PageRank?
You have read about the explanation of PageRank, so why do we need PageRank? Why do we need those votes from other website to make our website or our blogs important? The importancy here means that the rank of our website or blogs in the search engine. That explains why we need PageRank, because we want our webpage to appear top 10 in search engine. Imagine you have a website that is ranked top 10 which is in the search result 1st page and a website which is ranked 15 in the 2nd page, you’ll know whats the difference in visitor wise. With increased visitor definately it will improve your online ads earnings for example Google AdSense. There are other ways to improve the search engine using SEO but still PageRank plays an important role in that matter.

How to Improve PageRank?
Here comes the million dollar question. How to Improve PageRank? The answer is by using backlinks. The more website links to your page, the higher your PageRank are. But under one condition, you need to have high PageRank page to link to you, else it won’t help increase your PageRank at all. And based on Google PageRank algorithm, if a site with high PageRank link to you, your link which is displayed in the page will have to share the PageRank value with other links in the same page. That is why it is adviced to keep less links in a high PageRank page so that the link would be more valuable. If your link is displayed under a webpage with PageRank 7 but there are 100 links in the page, definately it won’t increase your PageRank much therefore the link exchange is not worth it at all.

What not to do to increase PageRank?
Do you know why there are so many link swapping, link exchange website out there? Because everyone wants high PageRank! Take http://www.linkmarket.net/ for example, there are so many registered user in the website and everyday there are so many link exchange request going on but do you think they are doing the correct way? Most of the link exchange request is from drug site, poker site! Do you think by exchanging links with those site will help increase your PageRank? Well you are definately wrong! Link exchange with spam site and bad site not only will decrease your PageRank and you’ll also risk your site being banned from search engines. And most of the time spam site like this do not have high PageRank so link exchange with them will not bring you any benefit at all.

Example of PageRank that helped search result ranking
One of my successful example is my company website which is Foto-ZZoom, you can search for “camera malaysia” , “digital camera malaysia” or “malaysia camera”. All these keyword for my site appears to be top 10 even with only PageRank 3 and there are around 1.5 million competitors for the keyword “digital camera malaysia”.

I just made a Link Exchange page for those who wants to increase their PageRank. My site have PageRank 5 so you should know it will definately improve your website or blogs search engine rankings.
