Deep impact hits its target

CometThis image shows comet Tempel 1 sixty seconds before it ran over NASA’s Deep Impact probe at 10:52 p.m. Pacific time, July 3 (1:52 a.m. Eastern time, July 4). The picture was taken by the probe’s impactor targeting sensor.

Their aim was true, their rocket steady. Deep Impact successfully hit the comet Tempel 1 at approximately 1:55am EST on July 4th. Chalk one up for NASA!

I am all for space expoloration but this is ridiculous. NASA spends a record $300mil to knock a hole in a comet. I have scoured the website and can’t find what useful we are going to learn. Basically, we can shoot stuff up anywhere we want.
