Your Website Sucks
Friday, June 3rd, 2005 at 11:36 am in InternetI came across an interesting article in Project Petaling Street and the writer put the title of the entry as Your Website Sucks
He had pointed out these few things which qualify to be a “sucky” website…
1. websites with striking and annoying color
2. websites with embedded songs that autoplay and has no play, stop or pause button.
3. websites that have too many information on a page.
4. disabling right clicking on their website.
5. it’s bad to open links in new window
6. uses really small fonts and really small text area?
After reading his article, i totally agree with what he had mentioned…but not knowing that his website sucks as well…kinda humiliating when i think of it. Basically there are alot of points which can support my statement.
1. Your website layout went wrong under IE and never ever think that IE is rubbish because there are still alot of user browse using IE, so cross browser compatibility is very important
2. This is silly but do you know that your site appears to have the deadly horizontal scroll bar when it is viewed under screen resolution 800×600 pixel? For your information horizontal scroll bar is a big NO-NO and that is a huge mistake! In my case i have to let it happend because i want to have a bigger content width and sidebar big enough for advertisement in the future but it still won’t do any harm because my right sidebar still can be viewed partially; but in your case. You are allowing it to cover your whole right sidebar which is very ridiculous!
3. The links in your content appears to be in brown color? Hello??? Dont preach other people not to put deadly red background with yellow text when you are doing something similar to it? Brown link and black text…hah, i think this is a hide and seek effect. I pity those visual impared user who visit your blog.
4. People who need their posts title in super huge font size is blind. Period.
5. I notice you have a creative way in creating your comment box which you use javascript to make it floating when user scroll the page it will follows on the right…Actually do you know anything about redudancy? And the comment box content appears to be in error because it only shows 1 line of the box and no submit button whatsoever…This is again, not so professional and standard.
6. This last point is the most fatal one…you didn’t even have alt attribute for pictures in your blog!!! Gosh…talking about sucky website
Please go and learn why alt is important before you even create that blog. Again…pity those visual impaired user. If you use lynx browser to view your site, basically it is nothing…spiders won’t love your site at all.
In a nutshell…please, if you know nothing…don’t write web design guidelines. And there is alot of great web design guidelines out there for everyone to read. So why bother writing one?
Updated: Im not saying my website is perfect because its not…and im also a beginner in designing websites and learning in the process. I just want to point out that…one don’t have to be too proud and write such entry to humiliate others, because when you point 1 finger at others, 4 fingers are pointing at yourself.

i dont think it is fixed because i notice when your site is viewed under 1024×768 pixel the horizontal scroll bar still there. And your right sidebar is covered.
