Ghost In The Shell 2: Innocence
Sunday, May 1st, 2005 at 10:11 am in Movies & TV
Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence, anime filmmaker Mamoru Oshii’s follow up to his 1995 cult classic Ghost in the Shell, hits North American theaters on September 17. We’ve got an exclusive first look at the mind-blowingly cool trailer for the flick – download it by clicking the links provided below.
The story takes place in the year 2032 and the line between humans and machines has been blurred almost beyond distinction. Humans have forgotten that they are human and those that are left coexist with cyborgs (human spirits inhabiting entirely mechanized bodies) and dolls (robots with no human elements at all).
Batou, a cyborg and a detective for the government’s covert anti-terrorist unit, Public Security Section 9, is investigating the case of a gynoid – a hyper-real female robot created specifically for sexual companionship – who malfunctions and slaughters her owner.

Ummm…wasn’t this out a long long time ago? I watched it last year. It’s actually like the original movie a bit too fast. They put too much elements in the movie until its hard to keep up for that the show is really about.
The series is much better in playing out the character development. If you really like the idea of the universe, its worth getting Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex.

Graphically, yes it is quite awesome and not your conventional type of anime but like Ghost In The Shell (1), the story is kinda philosophical and may not be everyone’s cup-of-tea. In terms of box-office performance, I think this film did very well for an anime last year and won some prestigous awards (can’t remember off the top of my head sorry).
Great exhibition of CG though, but the US / International release deserved a much better DVD cover art / poster to justify the quality of this animation movie.
Personally I prefer Stand Alone Complex than this or any Mamoru Oshii film… what kind of information do you need? Story? Characters…? Where to buy in KL?… I can try my best to give you more opinions to help your decision…

Stand Alone Complex is the TV series of Ghost In the Shell, now finishing its second season, so a total of 52 episodes. The stories are so much more interesting than the movie versions and character development more refined, in my opinion. I think you would like it.
GITS SAC Trailer (Righ Click & Download)- hope you are on Streamyx or broadband… 36.7MB file~ ^_^
As far as I know, most anime DVD shops around KL should carry GITS2: Innocence. Stand Alone Complex is harder to find though. I don’t know the name of the shops but here are a few anime DVD specialty shops to try out:
1. Top Floor of Midvalley Megamall (near the toys / hooby kits area)
2. Inside Jusco Midvalley (there’s a small Japanese stationery / magazine / DVD section), errr… at the kitchenware floor.
3. Kota Raya complex near Petaling Street, just go downstairs to the basement floor of the S&M Shopping complex. Many anime DVD shops down there.
4. Random DVD shops around Low Yat / Sg Wang Plaza
I’m a bit weary about buying Ghost In the Shell DVDs (Innocence or SAC) because the English subtitles for the DVDs I bought so far are really very very bad. I think they are probably HK or Taiwan versions so the translations really sucked. But some of the fan-sub versions online are superb ^_^
If anyone manage to get the US version Innocence / SAC DVDs, let me know too…

I have already seen it. A friend bought it for me. Quite good but like they say, nothing beats the original (previous) anime. And the english translation was terrible.

Wah! Where your friend buy? I want to watch also…pinjam la
