My Convocation

Hi everyone, im back hehe…you guys must be wondering where i went and how come so long never post any interesting stuff. The reason is because i went to my graduation convocation last saturday which is on 19/03/05. I have to wake up 5am in the morning and fetch my parents and go down to subang to fetch my girlfriend. After fetching my girlfriend then i follow behind my friend’s car to Inti main campus at Nilai, negeri sembilan. We reach there quite early though so we waited for the registration and after that went up to sports hall to take group photo. For almost 6 months since we left college, i didnt get to see all my classmates but i felt happy because today i get to see all of them.

After wearing our gown, we waited in our groups of courses. before taking our group photo, i keep adjusting my mortarboard because it is so tight until i feel that my head going to pop. Anyway i manage to survive the group photo eventhough i cant feel my head anymore due to the blood not flowing up the head. Later on the parents proceed to the multi purpose hall while we are brief on the graduation process which will take part in a short while.

There is a particular tradition which capture my attention which is the tassel flipping. the host tell us that before we accept our scroll, we must remain our tassel on the right side of the mortarboard. After receiving the scroll then we must flip it over to the left side. After the briefing then we follow the lead to the main hall and upon walking into the hall i can hear music played as if we are walking into the wedding hall or something. All graduates sits according to the their number. To everyone’s surprise, the host ask us to stand up and sing the college song…and i was like…college song? we have college song? everyone look at each other lol. Anyway we just moved our mouth when they play the song.

Later on the datuk gives some speeches, Inti president gives some speeches and the professor from conventry gives speeches and next is the scroll presenting ceremony. I was kinda nervous at that time and i keep staring at those people who went up stage and focus on how they walk, how they smile to the conventry professor and how they pose in front of the camera man. In my mind i keep on imagining myself on stage and keep reminding myself to flip the tassel to left after receiving the scroll eventhough there are alot of people who forget about it.

Anyway time passes by very fast when your mind is occupied and its my turn to go up stage. I still remember the moment walking up the stage was like forever….and the moment the head of programme call my name, the whole hall seems to be very quite, i cant hear anything, everything seems to be in slow motion and step by step i walk towards the professor and he give me a smile and shake hand…turn to camera man…smile and say thank you to professor and he say congratulation to me and i walk down the stage. oh yeah and not to forget, flip the tassel and yess!! i’ve graduated!!!!

A Piece of Advice to SPM Graduates

To all SPM graduates, this is a piece of advice from me to you on choosing which course to study. The most important issue to be considered here is whether you have the interest in that particular field and not to force yourself or forced by someone else to choose a course which you dont like. Remember, you live your own path and what you choose now may become your future.

I heard some discussion about choosing the right courses on the radio this morning and there is this girl talking about her friend which made the wrong choice. the girl comes from a very wealthy family with most of the family members being Doctor. So the parents force the girl (or should i use the word…”for her own good”) to go to UK and take doctor courses. Initialy the girl dont want to take that course because her interest is in marketing field….so after wasting 7 years in UK….she failed to finish the study there and come back Malaysia to work as salesgirl.

After some time later the parents sommore go and open a marketing company for the girl (now thats ridiculous!) WHAT THE HECK the parents is thinking man??!! i mean if they know their daughter have different interest then just let her decide her own future, why must they force her to do something she dont like!!! At least she wont waste 7 stupid years in UK right?

Any parents out there not satisfy with what im saying the go ahead…shoot me in my comments but im giving out this advice so that all you SPM graduates can use your “mature enough brain” and think rationally for your own future. For those who feel very stress on which course is right for your own. Sit down, take a deep breath and think whats your strength?…whats your strong point? what you do best and what you want for yourself? (for me is money of cos lol) Then start researching for that particular course you like….and find colleges, institute or maybe university which provide the best teaching on that course.

You can also look out for education fair which i think is the best option for graduates to look for a place to further their studies. Most of the time education fair will be held at pwtc. Another option is to walk in the colleges open day. There is alot of staff prepared to provide information on any course you wish to understand. One more thing is that you musnt be lazy to visit alot of colleges. Only that way you will filter down the best.

As for my experience, when i first come out from secondary school, i go to education fair to make myself more intelligent in looking for colleges and courses. i talk to alot of people and called alot of colleges…went to alot of open day (Tar College, Prime College, Sedaya College, Taylor College, MMU, Appit Institute, Help College just to mention a few and thank god i went to Inti College) Why i make that choice…is because they offer courses which can be completed in a short duration (2 years 8 months)….shorter than any college i know of (too bad they dont offer so short anymore lol) and they let me skip few first sems because of my result. Few other reasons is that they offer computer science unlike Appit which only have I.T.

But something i have to sacrifice because if i go there study….it will be way too far for me because i stay in sentul and to travel to subang everyday is….well i think you should know right? In the beginning i also dont have friends in Inti because all my friends study in KL….most of them in Tarc. Even worse is that i have to travel 1 hour to Inti by KTM (Train) and walk 15 minutes to college. So what?? issit because no friend and inconvinient you want to give up your dream or college which you think is suitable for you?

Until now i still feeling grateful i make the right choice and i’ve been working for 6 months now as programmer/webmaster. Tomorrow is my graduation ceremony and i would like to say thank you Inti College for giving me the best so that i can get 2nd upper class in Bsc (Hons) in Computer Science.

In a nutshell, i hope you guys persue your dreams according to your own will. Dont be the follower….at least dont follow blindly. If you think this article is useful for your brother your sister your friends your girl friend your boy friend. Ask them to read this or you can email to them.
