Stress Management Story
Monday, March 7th, 2005 at 4:13 pm in My LifeA lecturer was giving a lecture to his student on stress management. He raised a glass of water and asked the audience, “How heavy do you think this glass of water is?”The students’ answers ranged from 20g to 500gm.”It does not matter on the absolute weight. It depends on how long you hold it.If I hold it for a minute, it is OK.If I hold it for an hour, I will have an ache in my right arm.If I hold it for a day, you will have to call an ambulance. It is the exact same weight, but the longer I hold it, the heavier it becomes.”"If we carry our burdens all the time, sooner or later, we will not be able to carry on, the burden becoming increasingly heavier.”"What you have to do is to put the glass down, rest for a while before holding it up again.”We have to put down the burden periodically, so that we can be refreshed and are able to carry on.So before you return home from work tonight, put the burden of work down. Don’t carry it back home. You can pick it up tomorrow.Whatever burdens you are having now on your shoulders, let it down for a moment if you can.Pick it up again later when you have rested…Rest and relax.Life is short, enjoy it!!

They always say this same story. How to manage stress, but at the end all the skill they taught us won’t work at all, at least for me, it won’t work

Ultimately if you try to live on your own with stress then it will always get on top of you, there is no escape from it. You have to give it up to God and let HIM replenish you so that you can go on working. I’ve found that working at a church has been one of the most stressful experiences of my life, but to give my stress over to Jesus to take from me is the most effective way to leave all of that weight behind.

This is good to some extent for stress management forever however if you are always in the habit of putting down your burdens then maybe you’ll never resolve them, maybe you’ll never have time to sit and reflect on them and plan ahead.
If you don’t like your job, find what fascinates you in life, and pursue it, then your work won’t be such a burden.
I have found that motivators at work tend to make me feel brainwashed, i feel dirty. My job was horrible, but i was employed by one of the largest companies in the world - it is important for them to manipulate their workers into feeling good about their job, so that they become more productive and the company makes more money. In the end, the motivation wears off for most after a week or two, many of me and my colleagues quit eventually.
If you enjoy your job, but still find it stressful, then this is not to say that motivation and stress management is bad for you. I only disagree with it when it is used as a tactic to change someones perception about their job, because I have seen it used as just another technique to squeeze more money out of workers.
